Molecular Structures

"The specific features of molecular structure are due to the presence of non-polar molecules at the nodes of the space lattice, which are linked with one another by intermolecular forces. Although these molecules may sometimes be monatomic (for the inert gases), the lattice is still molecular in all its properties. The difference between atomic and molecular structures, therefore, depends not so much on the type of particles as on the nature of their interaction. Since intermolecular forces draw the particles together comparatively weakly, solids of molecular structure usually have low melting points and low hardness."
